College Principal Ms Michelle Carroll said Lael鈥檚 presentation would explore how to raise resilient and compassionate children through connection.

鈥淲e know that parents want to positively navigate the teen years and better understand what鈥檚 unfolding for children in this modern age,鈥 Ms Carroll said.

鈥淩esearch reveals that some of the top protective factors to help our tweens and teens thrive is to have meaningful participation in school life and involvement in co-curricular activities, as well as family cohesion.

鈥淪o it鈥檚 important that we learn effective strategies to support young people at each age and stage of their growth.鈥

Topics to be explored in the presentation include:
  • Changes in dynamics with puberty and growth
  • Managing technology
  • What conversations to have around puberty and sex
  • Alternatives to threats and punishments
  • Coping with resistant, defiant or aggressive behaviour
  • Exploring triggers as a parent
  • Getting clear on what you want as a parent, and what鈥檚 stopping you

Lael is a frequent guest on the wildly successful and has also teamed up with the award-winning wellbeing program, which was launched at Flinders this year as part of the College鈥檚 wellbeing curriculum for students in the Secondary School.

Flinders P&F President Mrs Caroline Edwards said she was excited the event would provide more parents with valuable tools to help young people step into adulthood with confidence.

SAVE THE DATE: Parents are also invited to save the date for our second Flinders Speaker Series event in 2024 on Thursday, 1 August with Michelle Mitchell, an award-winning speaker and bestselling parenting author who is sought after for her compassionate and grounded advice for parenting tweens and teens.
